The Talking Visuals site aims to provide information for carers of people who have communication and/or behaviour issues.
We have had delays in scheduling the online Talking Visuals this year, due to a change from using “Live Classroom” to “Elluminate”. The next session will be advertised as soon as this change has been finalised.
The “Next Online Session” page will have details about future sessions, once they have been organised.
The Talking Visuals project is a combined effort of the Regional Communication Service Scope, the East Gippsland Shire Library, East Gippsland Specialist School, Noweyung Inc, 8 community facilities in East Gippsland, and the speech pathologists in the Gippsland region.
The establishment phase of Talking Visuals has been funded by Friends of ACE Support (Friends of Australian Communication Exchange Support).
There are two aspects to Talking Visuals:
-
This Talking Visuals site – it enables you to gather information, look at sample visual strategies and the recorded online sessions, ask questions and read about other people’s comments.
-
Regular web based information sessions – these sessions use Live Classroom, and enable you to participate in training sessions delivered by a speech pathologist focusing on various aspects of communication, behaviour, and the use of visual strategies. These sessions are recorded (archived). You can look at the recorded sessions – Go to the “Resources” page.
If you want to participate in the web based training sessions, you need to:
-
Find out the time of the training session – refer to the Announcements page.
-
Each participant will need a computer and an internet connection with a microphone – ideally we recommend use of a computer headset, but speakers may suffice.
-
Navigate to http://liveclassroom.tafevc.com.au
-
Before trying to access the live classroom, please go to the Setup wizard (it is critical that this be used before attempting to access Live Classroom for the first time on any particular computer)
-
Once you have navigated through this wizard and sorted out any issues, you should be able to access the room easily. Please feel free to try logging in at any time before the session to check that you can get in.
What you can do at this site:
-
Look up information about communication and behaviour issues (go to the pages on “Communication”, “Communication Disability”, “About Visual Strategies”, “Visual Strategies Reference”).
-
Have a look at examples of visual strategies – go to “Sample Visual Strategies”.
-
Replay the recorded online sessions – go to “Resources”.
-
Ask questions – go to “Questions and Comments”.
-
Keep up to date about the web based information sessions – go to “Announcements”.
-
Give feedback and comments – go to “Questions and Comments”.
